How do you tighten the sauna straps?

Time to tighten your sauna straps? Here we explain how to do that!

Due to the changes in temperature, the wood in the sauna works. As a result, you may get cracks in the sauna. This is also known as capillary action. You can easily solve this by tightening the sauna straps.

We recommend doing this twice a year. Once when the outside temperature gets warmer and once when it gets colder. So the transition from winter to spring and from summer to autumn.

Here's how to tighten your sauna straps:

  1. On one side of the sauna, you'll see two threaded rods with nuts attached to the stainless steel strap;
  2. You'll need to loosen these nuts slightly. It's important not to unscrew them completely;
  3. Before tightening the straps, it's important to first tap the barrel planks into place. Do this by gently tapping all the planks with a rubber mallet, ensuring they fit snugly into the grooves of the end walls. This keeps the barrel perfectly round and allows the straps to be tightened optimally. If you skip this step, the barrel may deform, creating gaps that will be difficult or impossible to fix later.
  4. Then, firmly tighten the nuts again. Turn them as far as they will go. Once you can't tighten them any further, they are securely fastened.

The result is that the beams surround the walls properly again and that the cracks disappear.
