How do I maintain the water in my hot tub?

A filter system, UV filter and regular maintenance ensure that your hot tub water stays clean, fresh and healthy. So you can enjoy months without worries

Filter system

The filter pump has a natural filter system where the water is pumped past filter medium and the coarse dirt remains behind. The UV filter lowers the level of micro-organisms and kills 90% of the bacteria. This keeps the water clean for much longer, up to 2-3 months. A simple and sustainable solution to save water. Clean the tub and flush the stove

Use a mild detergent, such as detergent or all-purpose cleaner, and rinse thoroughly. Don't forget the stove: you can flush it with a garden hose via the penetrations on the inside of the tub. Remove the heater stop so that water and dirt can flow away.

Measure the values of the water

Before adding a maintenance product to the water, the pH and TA values must be in balance. Once you have filled the hot tub, it is important to measure these values. If you add maintenance products if the values are incorrect, the maintenance product will not work. Measure the values every time you fill the hot tub. This is because the values in water can change all the time.

You can measure the values with test strips. The pH and TA values are two separate values and must be adjusted separately.

pH value:

The pH value indicates the acidity of the water. It is ideal if it is between 7.2 and 7.6. If the value is too higher or lower, you must adjust it with an raiser/lower.

TA value:

The TA value stands for the total alkalinity (total amount of alkaline substances) of the water and refers to the water's capacity to neutralize the acids and stabilize the TA value. It is best if the TA value is between 80 and 120 ppm (milligrams per liter). If the value is higher or lower, you must adjust it with an raiser/lower.

If both values have been adjusted and are good, you can add a maintenance product such as Aquaclean or chlorine.

Tip: Always start by checking the TA value. Only with the right TA does your pH remain stable. Then you set the pH value good in, so that chlorine and other agents work optimally.

Of course, other factors are also important. Go into the hot tub clean, because cream, deo and other care products can influence and confuse the values.

The weather has an effect on your water‍

‍It's good to know that the weather also affects the water in the hot tub. For example, does the weather suddenly change from bright sunny to heavy rain? Then this is reflected in the pH value in your hot tub.

How to use the Balboa electric hot tub heating system

Do you have a Welvaere electric hot tub? Then you heat the water via the Balboa System.

Balboa

Only turn on the Balboa system when the hot tub is filled with water, by connecting the plug to a socket and pressing the test/reset button on the plug.

When the system has started, you will see the text: run pump for temperature. By now pressing warm, you activate the system and the heating system circulation pump starts running.

Set the desired temperature

With the warm and cool buttons, you set the desired temperature; when you do this, the numbers start to blink. When the numbers appear continuously again, you can see the temperature that the water currently has.

Attention! It is possible that the display does not show a temperature but only two horizontal lines, the system is just on or does not measure the temperature constantly because it has been on for a while.

Temperature range

The system can be set to two different modes. In the high range, the up arrow, you can set the heating between 26 and 40 degrees. In the low range, the arrow pointing down, the impoverishment has a range of 10 to 37 degrees. You can adjust the range by pressing menu once, selecting Temp and then choosing the range with warm/cool. Confirm with menu.

Vogue

The Balboa system can be set in two different positions, namely ready or rest. In ready mode, the hot tub is heated to, or maintained at, the temperature you have set yourself. This mode is used when you use the hot tub regularly and can be recognized by the upright R logo at the bottom left of the display. In idle mode, the water is not kept at the right temperature, you can choose this when you go on vacation, for example. You can adjust this setting by pressing menu twice, then pressing warm once, and then pressing menu again to confirm your choice.

Jets, Bubbles & LED lights

You can activate these options by pressing the corresponding button once. Pressing again will turn them off. The bubble system shuts itself off after 10 minutes?? The jet system? The Jet System and the Bubble System cannot be switched on at the same time.

Set time

You can set the time by pressing the menu button three times, then you can set the hours with the warm and cool button. Confirm your selection by pressing menu. Now you do the same for the minutes. Once the power has come from the Ducktub, you must set the time again.

How do I maintain the cover of my hot tub?

With a thermal cover, you can keep the water in your hot tub warm longer and protect the hot tub against dirt and weather influences. By maintaining your cover properly, you can extend its lifespan and prevent damage. Below you can read how to best use and maintain your thermo cover.

How to maintain your thermo cover

Clean the cover regularly

Clean your thermo cover at least once a month with lukewarm water and a mild liquid detergent. Optionally, use a soft brush to gently remove dirt.

Do not use:

Abrasive cleaning products
Hard brushes
Chlorine-containing cleaner
Alcohol
Oil-based products
Products with silicone

After cleaning, rinse the cover thoroughly and let it dry completely before you use it again.

Prevent moisture and mold

Let the cover ventilate regularly

After using your hot tub, it's important to give moisture the chance to evaporate. Therefore, leave the thermo cover open regularly or temporarily remove it from the hot tub.

When the cover remains fully closed for a long time, moisture can accumulate. This can lead to:

Mold formation
Unpleasant smells
Material damage

Damage due to insufficient ventilation or misuse is not covered by the warranty.

Check seams and openings

Check the seams and openings on the inside of the cover regularly and remove any accumulated moisture. This is how you help prevent mold from forming.

Seasonal maintenance

Remove snow, ice and leaves

Check the cover regularly for leaves, snow, ice and other dirt. Especially a thick layer of ice or snow can deform the foam core of the cover.

Note: Never stand on the thermo cover to remove snow or ice.

Let the foam parts dry annually

We recommend removing the EPS polystyrene parts from the cover at least once a year, turning them over and letting them dry in the sunlight (EPS polystyrene does not withstand prolonged exposure to UV rays, so don't leave it for too long).

How to use the thermo cover properly

Gently lift and move the cover

Do not pull the cover with excessive force.
Never lift the cover when there is something on it.
Never drag the cover on the ground. This can cause cracks and wear.

Only use the handles for their intended purpose

The handles are for opening and closing the cover only. Do not use them to wear the full cover.

Be careful with chemicals

Have you added water treatment products to the water? Then leave the hot tub open for at least one hour before replacing the thermo cover. Then, of course, you can simply put the cover back on.

Warranty on your thermo cover

Your car comes with a 2-year warranty as standard. This warranty applies to the original purchaser and covers manufacturing and material defects.

In some cases, we ask you to return the thermo cover for inspection. When the warranty applies, we choose to repair or replace the cover.

The warranty does not apply to damage due to misuse or insufficient maintenance. This includes:

Damage due to excessive use of chlorine or incorrect care products
Cracks, wear or damage caused by drags or sharp objects
Damage caused by sitting, walking or jumping on the cover
Damaged handles due to improper use
Repairs or adjustments not made by us
Damage due to external influences such as animals, fire, water, lightning or other environmental factors

Damage that occurs because the user and maintenance instructions have not been followed is not covered by Welvaere's warranty.
