What is thermowood?

Thermo wood is ecologically treated with steam and heat. It is used for saunas, hot tubs and accessories.

Thermowood is wood that is used during a special process with steam and heat up to 230 °C is heated. No chemicals are added: only heat and steam. As a result, the wood is fully recyclable and can even serve as an energy source after use.

At Welvaere, we use thermowood for the wooden upholstery and all accessories for our hot tubs and saunas.

Benefits of thermowood

  • Sustainable: falls into durability class 1—2, comparable to tropical hardwood.
  • Environmentally friendly: replaces tropical hardwood and thus saves rainforests.
  • High insulation: retains heat better.
  • Long lifespan: extends the duration of use of saunas and hot tubs.
  • Minimal moisture absorption: wood absorbs less water and remains stable.
  • FSC approved: responsibly produced wood.
  • Dark color: gives a warm, luxurious look.

Extra resistance

During the heating process, sugars, carbohydrates and resin disappear from the wood. As a result, it is unattractive to fungi and insects, which further extends the lifespan.

💡 In short: thermowood is strong, durable and easy to maintain. Ideal for hot tubs, saunas and accessories that endure a lot of heat, cold and moisture.
