What type of wood is best used for firing?

Hardwoods such as oak, ash, beech and hornbeam burn slowly and provide a lot of warmth. Birch is ideal for lighting.

For a good fire, you need wood that ignites easily and emits heat for a long time. Only use dry, untreated wood. Avoid waste wood, newspapers or wood with paint or glue residue, as this causes a lot of smoke and bad smells.

Here are the most suitable types of wood:

  • Oak: popular for heating due to its high energy content and long burning time. Provides a lot of warmth and is ideal for long-term use.
  • Es: easy to split, burns for a long time and provides a lot of heat. Because ash dries relatively quickly, it can be used faster than oak.
  • Beech: burns cleanly and efficiently with a nice flame. Just let it dry thoroughly, because fresh beech wood contains a lot of moisture.
  • Birch: burns bright and fast, perfect for starting a fire. Gives a pleasant scent, but burns shorter than oak or ash.
  • Hornbeam: similar to beech, burns hot and clean with a long burn time.

💡 Hint: ensure that the wood is thoroughly dry (≤ 20% moisture). Freshly harvested wood often has to dry for 1 to 2 years before you can use it safely.
