How to Build the Barrel of the DIY Sauna

These steps show how to build the barrel of the home sauna.

Placing the First Crescent Profile:

  1. Place a crescent profile on the two walls. Ensure the walls fall into the groove of the crescent profile.

Attaching the Left Crescent Profiles:

  1. Piece by piece, place the left crescent profiles on the left side.
  2. Screw each profile down with two 4.5x60 screws, positioning the screws in the center of the groove.
  3. Continue this process until about two-thirds of the height of the sauna.
  4. Make sure each new crescent profile fits properly with the previous profile. Use a rubber mallet to assist with fitting.

Attaching the Right Crescent Profiles:

  1. Piece by piece, place the right crescent profiles on the right side.
  2. Screw each profile down with two 4.5x60 screws, positioning the screws in the center of the groove.
  3. Continue this process until about two-thirds of the height of the sauna.
  4. Ensure each new crescent profile fits properly with the previous profile. Use a rubber mallet to assist with fitting.

Placing the Upper Crescent Profiles:

  1. Place the remaining left crescent profiles without screws, leaving enough space on top for one more profile in between.
  2. Place the remaining right crescent profiles without screws, leaving enough space on top for one more profile.

Finishing the Upper Crescent Profiles:

  1. Remove the top middle crescent profile.
  2. Insert a final left and right crescent profile.

Cutting the Last Crescent Profiles to Size:

  1. Measure the distance (distance A).
  2. Cut an additional right crescent profile to half the measured size A.
  3. Cut a left crescent profile to half the measured size A.

Attaching the Cut-to-Size Profiles:

  1. Screw the two cut-to-size sections together (with the concave curve outward) using 4.5x60 or 5x100 screws. Place one screw every 50 cm.
  2. Note: If you have a wood stove, do not place screws from 20 cm to 50 cm from the back.

Placing the Last Double Crescent Profile:

  1. Place the last double crescent profile you just made. Use a rubber mallet to position it if necessary.

Attaching the Straps:

  1. Place the tension straps next to the screws.
  2. Hand-tighten the straps so they stay in place but are not tight yet.

Removing the Screws in the Formwork:

  1. Now that the straps are holding the formwork beams in place, remove the screws in the formwork up to the slipper.

Tightening the Tensioning Straps:

  1. Place the straps at the sizes shown below and tighten them.
  2. While tensioning, hit the formwork with a rubber mallet to achieve the correct shape.
  3. Tighten the straps with an impact driver and a wrench.

Attaching the Rain Leaders:

  1. Attach the rain leaders to the formwork on both sides with 4.5x60 screws, one screw approximately every meter. Do not screw through the turnbuckles.

Optional: Attaching Decorative Arches:

  1. Pre-drill the holes with a 3mm drill bit to the dimensions indicated.
  2. Attach the arches to the front and back, starting at the top center, using two 4x60 screws per piece. Ensure the first one is level and hanging properly in the center.
