I have brown spots in my hot tub, what can I do about it?

Are there brown spots in your hot tub or does the water look brown? This is usually due to an excessive iron content.

When the water in your hot tub turns brown or leaves brown stains, the cause is usually too high iron content in the water — especially when using groundwater.

To fix this:

  1. Perform a chlorine shock to completely clean the water.
  2. Empty the hot tub and refill it with clean water.
  3. Check pH values and make sure they are well balanced before you continue.
  4. Add a flocculant to clean water. This binds small metal particles so that the filter can capture them.
  5. Keep the pump running 24/7 so that the system can filter everything properly.

Hint: if you use groundwater, it is better to use a prefilter or water deferrizer use when filling. This prevents the problem from coming back.
